Ryan's Machinima Proposal

My proposal for machinima is to create an avatar character who would resemble the professional golfer, John Daly, in a sense. We would do a documentary of him playing golf and his post-round activities where I would interview and discuss certain topics with him. Sounds boring so far? The twist is that John Daly is a raging alcoholic, and my character will mirror that, as well as the fact that he is addicted to high-stakes gambling. The story of my video would be something similar with what happened to Daly in real life, where he was playing in a big tournament in San Francisco, ended up in a play off with Tiger Woods, missed a three foot putt (for those of you who don’t play golf, it is the most heart breaking thing we golfers could possibly experience) and then flew directly to Las Vegas where he blew all of his earnings—something like over $500,000 in less than an hour.

It should not be too hard to come up with sets, as there are a number of courses in SL and of course, there are a number of bars and casinos. So the trick will be to come with an interesting script. The situation presents something that is hilariously funny, yet, at the same time, very tragic. It’s the story wasted talent (his is both immense and pure) due to his troubled childhood and the addictions he lives with because of it. I don’t want to do something like the “Addiction” video from Meowan studios, but rather show all of these connotations through the humor. I envision people laughing the entire three minutes or so of the video, and then feeling like they want to cry for him afterwards.
