What's the point??
When looking through the articles on the Rueters newswire, the one titled “Poll: Most adults don’t want fantasy avatars” caught my eye. I guess they did this poll asking people if they would change their physical appearance when they made their virtual world avatar. The results showed 44.2% claiming they would not drastically change their appearance from what it is right now. This seems a little shocking and somewhat ironic. People join virtual worlds to have a second life, right? So, why would they want to be the same person they are in real life? It doesn’t make sense to me. I thought the purpose of joining virtual worlds was to not be your real self. If everyone on Second Life acts like they would in everyday life then what’s the point of the site at all? It would be like a more interactive form of Facebook.
