Wild blog spot
I was surfing the Internet today and i found this really cool blog spot/ online magazine. It is called "Reality sandwich"and their subjects for blogs run from "sustainability to shamanism,alternate realities to alternative energy, remixing media to re-imagining community, holistic healing techniques to the promise and perils of new technologies." The blog spot aims to spark a debate and engage its audience by offering a "forum for voices ranging from the ecologically pragmatic to the wildly visionary." Reality sandwich tries to Counteract the "doom-and-gloom of the daily news" and create a is a space for voices to convey different vision of the transformations our world is facing. It is also very cool because the title of this site is borrowed from the beat generation poet Allen Ginsberg who inspired new beginnings, ideas, and connections during the beat generation. The different post and blogs care everything for the original religion, multitude reading group, old struggles on a new earth, The Obama virus, where the political collides with the magical, The not so secret history of Jesus, hip hop and the sustainable south Bronx. These are only some of the post they have and there are a lot more wild ones!! It is a pretty cool site, and they also use drupal for their web site allowing anyone to contribute with their own visionary ideas. definitely check it out: http://www.realitysandwich.com/

This is actually really interesting. I went to the link you provided and I am now getting some more ideas to help out my group with our machinima-making. This also reminds me of what we talked about on the first day of class- publics. Clearly, this site supports becoming a part of the online public and encourages individuals to express their opinions and thoughts. Some of these posts are quite fascinating and it is intriguing to see how strongly someone can feel about a certain topic. It almost resembles passion. Relating this to what we are doing in class, it makes me think of my prejudgment of Second Life users. To be quite honest, I first thought of Second Life users as people who did not have interesting real lives and felt the need to create a virtual world. However, like anyone else, including the users of the posts posts on Reality Sandwich and Second Life users, individuals have passions. These passions tend to manifest both time and effort, and I now have a better understanding and appreciation for the contributions and choices of others.
Lucy, nice find! Per your recommendation, I checked out this site and found the breadth of it pretty amazing. I read a couple of the "Psyche" blogs - one in particular about a stay in a Thai monestary, "trying" on Buddhism. I found myself smiling and identifying with the counter-culture streak of being ambiguously spiritual. I'll definitely check it out again! :)
