My secret blog addiction

The site that I cannot get enough of, and must read everyday (i swear, it's like my crack) is Perezhilton.com. It's such a horrible site, and I recognized that, but for some reason, knowing about celebrities and what they are up to is interesting to me. I think it's interesting that Perez makes a life out of blogging, even making TV apperances, Radio shows, etc, all stemming from a blog. It's interesting mostly because it's not his own creative ideas, it's just a compilation of different pictures/stories that are brought up to the news media. I think it's funny (ironic) that however many people say they hate the site, loathe the site, etc, the things he says stick (like nicknames for couples, celebrities). A lot of people read his site, and in a sense it's become a community because people can post back to him about his blogs, and a LOT of people do.

I am pretty much obsessed with this site as well so, you're not alone :-) to tell you the truth, I am not even really that interested in celebrity news. I just feel that the media makes such a big deal about miniscule events in the daily lives of celebrities that these events seem extraordinary and pail in comparison to my life. The site is so successful because it is pure entertainment. You don't even have to know who the celbrities are to understand the jokes made by Perez Hilton. This aspect alone makes the site open to an extremely large audience. Go onto YouTube and type in "Miley and Mandy". Click the first link... it should take you to a MySpace page. The videos on this page are similarly addicting in the way that Perez Hilton's site is. In fact, I think that these videos might help to inspire the bulk of what I hope to achieve with our group project. Entertainment out of, well, nothing. Easy to produce, yet nearly impossible to replicate once your personal touch has been added.

I have never heard of the blog perezhilton.com. I just visited it today and I could also see myself becoming addicted to it. I don't know what it is that would make people interested. Maybe its the fact that people know who these celebrities are and because of this they can make jokes and entertain themselves. Because people don't know who each other are on the internet it is harder to find things to talk about. Talking about celebrities is a common ground where most people can create conservations out of.

I totally know where you're coming from about Perezhilton.com, it was my summer addiction but luckily i broke the habit!
It's total trash talking but I think it's good entertainment. If you keep up with one specific blog daily (or weekly) after a while the blog terminology and jokes start making a lot of sense and it's like you're in this (not-so)secret society that shares the same sense of humor.
Blogs are a great way to build community, not necessarily ones like Perezhilton, but others that focus on current events, politics, and social responsibility outside. They are a good way to engage people and see an alternative POV not only from people in the United States but people all over the world.
